Digboi is considered as the birthplace of the Oil Industry in India. Here, first oil well in Asia was drilled in the year 1889 and Digboi Refinery was set up in 1901 by Assam Oil Company Ltd.

The Oil heritage of digboi has been carefully preserved at the Digboi Museum,this museum consists of the legacies of past and is well presented with the help of unique equipments used by british people.
