DIGBOI A BEAUTIFUL TOWN

“Digboi”  have you ever had an idea before ? Digboi one of the most beautiful place located in India, a part of Northeastern India and a beautiful town of upper Assam. Now lets take a drive to this beautiful and small  town and know about it more ...so here, let me be the driver of this journey and learn more about this fabulous town of northeast .

“Digboi” what comes in your mind when you think about it ? Is something different or you don’t even know about it at all? ok no problem but let us explore the town with the help of this blog of mine.... 

 

Beautiful Digboi is a town in Tinsukia district and is  located  at 27.38°N 95.63°E and is situated 510 km away from Guwahati. It is the city of oil and also is known as" Oil City of Assam ",where the first oil well was drilled.It is known as the Asia’s first oil refinery started In 19th century .In the year 1901 crude oil was discovered in Digboi,Assam and it is the oldest oil well operation in Asia. In 1867 Engineers accidentally discovered oil at Digboi . It is said that while extending the railway project the English engineer, shouted “Dig boy ,dig” at his men as they watched elephants emerging out of the dense forest with oil strains on their feet, thus  from the phrase  “Dig- Boy- Dig" the name was given to Digboi...

In the year 1889 the English started a small oil installation and so Asia got its first refinery in Digboi(India) in th year 1901. Hence, the capacity of this refinery  of producing oil was close to 7,000 barrels per day during  World War II . The field was pushed to produce the maximum amount of oil with little regard to reservoir management as a result production started to drop almost immediately after the War.Today though the crude production is not high, Digboi  has the distinction of being India’s oldest continuosly producing oilfield .The legacy of nature  is still alive in digboi and its a matter of proud for we Indian that we are blessed with such a valuable legacy which has made the name of India proud incase of this oil discovery....    

It is a very small town with less population.Tea gardens, IOCL are the main sources of earnings. Its very beautiful place with Museum, Park , War Cemetery, Shillong road, Tea gardens  etc. So visit it and explore it more..Here, Digboi welcomes you with its population  of 20,405 ...good luck....hope you liked it ....

Lets have a look over the Dhola-Sadiya bridge ..a bridge which not only connects two states of NorthEast (India) but a ray of hope for  the residents of the states which will  make the life of those people easy and comfortable.This bridge is a gift to the people living in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh and India as whole.People here, used to travel the distance with the help of ferry,boat etc. The life of passengers were worst and risky & took hours to travel from one corner to the other, which meant waste of time and fuels.with the inaugration of this bridge the hope of people too inaugrated.
